Students of the Month of November 2010
CENTRAL ELEMENTARY
Jaime, Jose, Xiomara, and Pedro
Ed "Doc" Connor treated the students at Central Elementary to a fine discussion about Veteran's Day. Doc was a Navy corpsman during the Vietnam War. A corpsman is a trained sailor who is responsible for providing care to members of the US Armed Forces, first aid and trauma care on the battlefield (this name is used primarily in the Navy and Marine Corps; other branches use the term medic). Doc was dual enlisted in both the Navy and Marines. He taught the students why we should love our country and respect our flag. We thank Doc for his special presentation and for his service to our country.
Central Elementary celebrated "Red Ribbon Week" this week. Red Ribbon Week is nationally recognized and celebrated, helping to preserve Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena’s memory (a DEA agent killed in the line of duty) and further the cause for which he gave his life. The Red Ribbon Campaign also became a symbol of support for the DEA’s efforts to reduce demand for drugs through prevention and education programs.
Red Ribbon Celebration brings millions of people together to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and encourage prevention, early intervention, and treatment services. It is the largest, most visible prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the United States.
