Your Support Crucial
The window for pre-filing bills in the legislature has opened and there are already 20 proposed Education bills coming before the legislature when it convenes later this month. There is strong concern that these bills, if passed, will drastically change your child’s education next year. PLEASE take a few moments to read these bills and become informed. Let your representatives know you want the funding formula to remain as it is in support of small schools and small districts. The people in Santa Fe MUST hear from YOU!

BRRR!! IT’S COLD OUTSIDE! STILL!
The temperature dropped quite a bit and we returned to school to find snow on the ground! It is very chilly throughout the day both inside and outside. Please make sure your child is adequately dressed for the weather. There are some students coming to school wearing t-shirts only. Sweaters, sweat-jackets and other light weight outer garments are helpful in keeping your child comfortable during school hours and will prevent illness.
LIBRARY HOURS EXTENDED
In an effort to increase student literacy we are keeping the library open with extended hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our library will be open from the time school releases until 6:30 pm. We will also be open the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. These are good opportunities for students to come in to read, do research or just complete homework.
We encourage parents to come and utilize the library with your child.
HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME
Isolate a nice quiet spot for studying. Turn off the television! It is next to impossible to concentrate on studying when your child’s favorite cartoon or kid’s show is on. If you live in a home where the computer dominates most of your child’s free time, turn it off too. Turning off the television and the computer erases major distractions that could otherwise hinder your child’s ability to study. Find a quiet and neutral room, preferably a guest bedroom or a den. Introducing your child to a quiet environment may be met with some resistance at first, but it is very important to establish rules about quiet study time from the beginning.
Anti-Bullying Information
What to do if your child is aggressive or bullies others…
- Talk to your child. Don’t blame. Stay calm and make it clear that bullying is not acceptable.
- Discuss with your child the negative impact that bullying has on the victims. Teach empathy.
- Talk and listen to your child. Share information with his/her teachers and school administration. Keep the lines of communication open between school and home.
- Be willing to attend any interviews with school personnel. Work with the school to modify your child’s behavior.
- Keep a written record (who, what, where, when, why, and how).
- Praise the efforts that your child makes toward non-violent and responsible behavior.
- Ensure a consistent approach to consequences between home and school. Consequences should be clear, age appropriate and logical, NOT punitive.

We will be sharing the results of the tests with the students when testing has been completed.
